Community Impact Grants
Art Gallery of Windsor - History Book
$2,000
In celebration of its 70th anniversary, the Art Gallery of Windsor is developing a book of the Gallery’s history from 1943 to present. A grant from the Community Foundation will support the research and development of this project.
Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village - Roof Replacement
$4,500
The Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village exists to preserve our heritage by educating visitors, collecting, restoring, maintaining and displaying modes of transportation and early ways of living in our region. A grant from the Foundation will assist with this by replacing the roof on two of the organization’s heritage buildings, ensuring that they remain open for public viewing and preserving them for another generation.
Canadian Mental Health Association - Infant Bereavement Box Project

A conversation between a high school teacher and a mental health worker has developed into a partnership which provides young people with valuable skills training while creating memory boxes for parents who have recently lost a child under the age of 2 years. The Foundation is providing $1,000 to purchase the materials the students need to create 100 Infant Bereavement Boxes for participants in CMHA’s Grief Works program.
Canterbury College - Eldercollege

Eldercollege is a new program of Canterbury College which provides a variety of intellectually stimulating courses for those over age 55 in locations which are convenient to those persons. Courses are designed to be interactive and serve both educational and social needs for participants. The Community Foundation is providing a grant of $3,000 to support the development of this initiative.
Erie Wildlife Rescue - Public Education Room

Erie Wildlife Rescue has been able to strike a land lease agreement with the City of Windsor to construct a new facility at Malden Park, making way for the Windsor-Essex Parkway. Their new building will be open to the public and provide opportunities for visitors to learn about the organization’s mission and mandate. A grant from the Community Foundation will equip their new education room.
Essex Youth Centre - Renovations

Since 1999 the Essex Youth Centre has provided a secure environment, to have fun, to form friendships and to take part in a wide variety of activities and programs which provide young people with opportunities for personal growth and development. A grant of $2,500 from the Foundation will allow the Centre to paint and purchase new furnishings.
Family Respite Services - Coupons in Our Community

Family Respite Services supports over 900 families in Windsor/Essex County who are caring for children with disabilities. Their services enrich the quality of family life, and facilitate full participation for children in the community. A grant of $5,000 from the Community Foundation will allow Family Respite to purchase coupons/free passes so that families and respite providers can involve the child in community activities like; swimming, bowling, mini golf and going to the zoo or movies. Family Respite has maximized the effect of the grant by having each vendor participating agree to match our investment dollar for dollar.
Ford City Neighbourhood Renewal - Project Porchlight

Project Porchlight – Ford City will provide a Compact Florescent Light (CFL) bulb to all residences in the Ford City area. The project will improve neighbourhood safety and quality of life as well as save bill payers money. The Foundation is awarding a grant of $1,000 to the Ford City Neighbourhood Renewal Project in support of this initiative.
Harmony In Action - Accessible Sport

Harmony In Action operates day, evening and weekend programs to enrich the lives of adults living with developmental and/or physical challenges, by providing opportunities to succeed. In their new building, the organization is able to provide sports and fitness programs. A grant of $4,000 from the Foundation will purchase sport equipment that is wheel chair and mobility level adaptable.
Harrow Garden Club - Snake Lane Beautification

The Harrow British Methodist Episcopal Church & Cemetery site is all that remains of the former Harrow Snake Lane Black Pioneer Community. The site was used as a religious camp meeting site starting in the mid 1800’s by the local African Canadian community, many of whom were escaped slaves from the U.S. The Community Foundation is providing a grant of $2,000 to the Harrow Garden Club in support of the beautification of this historic site in advance of the War of 1812 celebrations.
House of Shalom Youth Centre - Roof Repairs

For over 40 years the House of Shalom Youth Centre has been helping young people become tomorrow's leaders through a variety of outlets for self-expression, recreation, creativity and community service. A grant of $2,500 from the Community Foundation will help pay for needed roof repairs for the centre.
Multicultural Council of Windsor-Essex - Harmony Ribbon

The Multicultural Council’s Harmony Ribbon Cultural Awareness Program seeks to educate the people of Windsor-Essex about the benefits of diversity and immigration. The Community Foundation is supporting their efforts by providing a grant of $2,500 to pay for the printing of program booklets and support materials.
Reach For The Skye - Commercial Refrigerator

Reach For The Skye provides day programming for adults with disabilities, allowing them to develop their knowledge, skills and values, enhancing their quality of life, improving their ability to acquire independence and promoting their social integration. The Foundation is providing a grant of $1,000 to purchase a commercial refrigerator for use in their cooking program.
Sexual Assault Crisis Centre - “Party Safe”

The Sexual Assault Crisis Centre’s “Party Safe” project plans to develop a multi-platform portal(website, social media and mobile) to encourage young people to intervene to prevent excessive drinking or sexual violence. The Community Foundation is providing a grant of $2,500 to assist in the development of the online portal.
St Joseph's Catholic High School - Living Wall Project
$2,500
St Joseph's High School wishes to bring fresh air and nature into the atrium of their school and has embarked on a project to install a ‘living wall.’ The Foundation is supporting this effort with a grant of $2,500.
Tetra Society - Accessibility "Gizmos"
$2,500
Tetra Society volunteers create customized assistive devices for adults and children with physical disabilities allowing them to achieve an independent and fulfilling life. The Foundation is providing the Windsor Chapter with a grant of $2,500 to construct “Gizmos” for area residents.
Naturalized Habitat Network - Project Pawpaw
$3,000
The Naturalized Habitat Network works hard to fight the spread of invasive plant species while encouraging the growth of native plants, attracting wildlife and fostering environmentally sound gardening practices in Windsor-Essex. The Community Foundation is providing a grant of $3,000 to promote the restoration of the native Pawpaw tree, thus providing a new food source and a potential cash crop for area agri-business.
Windsor Essex Community Health Centre - Migrant Worker Health Fair

The Windsor Essex Community Health Centre provides a diverse array of programs and services in Windsor and Essex County. The Foundation is providing them with a grant of $2,000 so that they can provide sunscreen and hats to migrant workers to use in their daily work.
Windsor MedPals - 2011-2012 Program
$500
Windsor MedPals provides area secondary students with a unique opportunity to be exposed to the field of medicine, as they are matched with a medical student mentor and are given access to the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry to learn some basic medical skills and practice using some of the equipment. The Community Foundation is providing a grant of $500 to cover program expenses for 2011-2012.
Windsor Symphony Orchestra - Music Therapy Program

The Windsor Symphony Orchestra is receiving $2,500 to support a pilot music therapy project in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association. Half of this grant is being disbursed from the Foundation’s Community Fund, the other half from the Joe & Hazel Lacey Memorial Fund.
Windsor Youth Centre - Homeless Youth Centre
$1,500
With the help of Westminster United Church a new centre to serve Windsor’s homeless youth is being established. The Foundation is awarding a grant of $1,500 to the Windsor Youth Centre to help establish their programs.
Youth & Family Resource Network of Essex County - Community Garden
$2,000
This grant will help the organization continue the development of the County’s first community garden and fund the purchase of a heavy duty rototiller and pick-up truck.
FastTrack Grants
City of Windsor - Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay
$1,000
Given the limited time the City of Windsor had to prepare for the Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay, they applied for and received a Fast-Track Grant of $1,000 to support the project.
Naturalized Habitat Network - Invasive Species Literature
$700
When the Naturalized Habitat Network realized they needed more literature for an upcoming presentation on invasive species, they applied for and received a $700 Fast-Track grant for the project.

Harding Electric / Morris and Ruth Harding Memorial Fund

The Harding Electric Bursary provided one student with $500 to support their continuing education in the skilled trades.
Islands of Green Agency Fund to the Essex Region Conservation Foundation

In support of their ongoing efforts to reforest and green the Essex region, protect significant natural areas, preserve our cultural heritage, restore wetlands, and increase green connections through acquiring and developing trails.
Joe & Hazel Lacey Memorial Fund to the Amherstburg Food & Fellowship Mission

In support of the ongoing work of the Mission to serve the people of Amherstburg.
Joe & Hazel Lacey Memorial Fund to the Kiwanis Music Festival

In support of their annual youth music competition. The event provides an opportunity for hundreds of our area music students to showcase their talent while gaining confidence in their abilities through performance.

The Dorothy & Sydney Lawton Fund provided a grant of $4,000 to support the ongoing work of the Italian Canadian HandiCapable Association.

Father Matt Sheedy Scholarship Fund

The Father Matt Sheedy Scholarship Fund supports the post-secondary education of students from Assumption College Catholic High School. This year’s recipient received $2,000 to help fund his/her studies at McMaster University.
Gale and Irene (Knister) Taylor Scholarship Fund

The Gale and Irene (Knister) Taylor Scholarship Fund provided $1,875 in bursaries for students attending the University of Western Ontario and the University of Guelph.

Assumption Heritage Trust - Grand Front Entrance

The Assumption Heritage Trust is currently raising funds to preserve and protect Our Lady of Assumption Church and its public gardens. In recognition of the cultural importance of this heritage property, the Community Foundation has awarded a grant of $175,000 over five years to help fund the Grand Front Entrance.
Great Lakes Funders Group - Mapping Project
$3,500
The Foundation Board provided a grant of $3,500 to the Great Lakes Funders Group to help fund a valuable mapping project of environmental initiatives affecting the Great Lakes Basin in Canada and the United States.
