Giving Options
Individuals and businesses are discovering the many ways of donating to The WindsorEssex Community Foundation and the benefits gifts can provide the community.
Your gift can be directed toward an existing fund, used to establish a new fund or directed immediately to a community charity. The foundation is happy to assist you in your gift giving options. To understand the tax advantages for each gift type, both present and future gifts, we suggest you consult your financial advisor.
Current Gifts
Cash
The most immediate way of donating to the foundation is by way of cash, cheque or through our online giving portal. Many of our donors find this route appealing as the funds are invested immediately to begin accruing interest and the donor receives tax savings on his/her next tax return.

When making a gift by cash or cheque, please also complete and return a Donor Information Card to ensure your philanthropic wishes.
Securities
One of the most cost-effective ways donors can make a gift to the foundation is through transferring securities including publicly traded shares, bonds and mutual funds. A tax receipt is issued for the full market value on the date of transfer and provides for no tax to be paid on any of the capital gain realized. Please contact our office for guidance on how to make gifts of securities.
Deferred Gifts
Bequests
A number of our donors have decided to leave a gift to the foundation through a bequest, which is a donation noted in a Will. Often these gifts are specified dollar amounts, property or percentages of the residue of the estate. A bequest is simple to arrange and can help reduce the tax paid by your estate. The foundation receives the donation upon the death of the donor.
If you would like to leave a gift to the community as a charitable bequest in your will, we can assist you with the wording. We also recommend consulting your lawyer for advice before making a planned gift.
Life Insurance
Another way of benefiting the community through the foundation is with a gift of life insurance. This method is useful to donors who are interested in leaving a significant gift at an economical cost to them. Benefactors can donate an existing policy or purchase a new one for the WindsorEssex Community Foundation; or keep ownership and name the foundation as a beneficiary. To learn more contact our executive director or your professional advisor for assistance in deciding which option is best for you and your family.
